General Hard Wood Floor Maintenance Tips

October 8, 2019

The flooring that we use in our homes will determine how it will stand up to wear and tear.  Many people will opt from a laminate flooring, tile or even carpet.  However, for those who really want a natural look in their home’s hardwood flooring is the way to go.  One of the most popular hardwood floorings to choose from is the monarch plank windsor collection.

Scrapes and scuffs

As we walk on our flooring the inevitable scrape or scuff will appear.  These are the little black marks that show up on your floor from time to time.  To remove these from your floor try rubbing it with the bottom of your sneaker.  If this does not work, then try a very fine steel wool.

Removing oil

Oil, dirt and grime will eventually build up on your floor.  To remove this, you will want to use a small scrub brush with hot water and dish detergent.  As you scrub the floor you will want to scrub the floor in a circular motion.  This scrubbing motion will help remove these dirt and oils.

Mopping the floor

No one wants to mop the floor.  This can be a time consuming and tedious job, however, when we mop the floor, we are removing any particles that could damage our floors.  When mopping the key is to use very little water on the floor.

Many people will soak and saturate their floors with water.  This is not a good thing to do when working with hardwood flooring.  If you have standing water on your floors these can seep into the pours of the wood and eventually cause damage by warping, mold growth and more.

When mopping the floor ring out the water fully from the mop and just use a damp mop when cleaning your floor.  If you have a wet floor make sure that you dry the floor fully.  Use fans, air conditioners and natural sunlight as tools to keep water off your floors.
